A great way to gain validation online
Hello 👋🏾 Happy Sunday!
Today, I'd like to personally recommend a method to gain sustainable external validation. But first, let me start off with two personal mantras to provide context:
It's ideal to not care what people think but it’s highly likely that we will. Instead, the key is to seek why we gain value from what people think and assess how we can work on that. And then, of course, work on that.
External validation is an important driver to complete many of life’s tasks and trying to completely eradicate it is near-impossible for most of us. Instead, we must try to seek out sustainable sources of external validation.
So here’s what I urge you to consider today:
Share your learning process online in real-time to help others and inspire them.
I’ve been doing this for a while on several platforms but I decided to structure a compilation on Twitter 👇🏾
In my first newsletter, I shared how I made social media less toxic and in that, I shared how learning in public can be really helpful to all of us. This can be done with anything.
I bet you’ve recently pledged yourself to learn a new skill, create something new or simply, try to lose weight. This is all amazing but why not share that journey with the people you care about?
Create a new account on the platform of your liking.
Start posting your process and thoughts.
Show people your successes and obstacles along the way.
Not only will you provide a quality service to others, but the external validation you gain from it is also much more sustainable than most other sources online.
Furthermore, it’s also so much easier to not give a damn what people think! Literally, you’ll be mindful of how much you’re doing this for you. What is there for people to think? You’ve already made it clear that you’re learning. Absolute peace of mind on social media throughout.
And finally, even if no one is really engaging with your work, it’s easy to remember that it’s not about them. You’re improving for yourself every single day.
Inspiring others to work on themselves and on what they love is just a nice bonus.
🤔 What process would you like to share in public this year?
